KAIMRC in the Western Region (WR) represents the cornerstone for medical research within this region of KSA. It operates in parallel with KAIMRC Central and Eastern Regions, sharing strategies and operational resources. Creativity and innovation are promoted between each other. KAIMRC – WR provides advanced infrastructure for research scientists and investigators as well as state-of-the-art technology and equipment. Access is not limited to the local area, but national and international researchers from other institutes and research centers will be able to access the center, through multiple collaborative schemes in order to serve the noble cause of advancing medical knowledge.
The new five story KAIMRC-WR opened in September 2014 with the offices operating in the first, third, fourth and fifth floors. The building contains state-of-the-art laboratories: Vivarium, Animal Laboratory, Medical Imaging Laboratory and lecture rooms. This facility also includes DNA Banks, Stem Cell Labs and Immunology Labs with the highest international research standards.
KAIMRC-WR also employs high caliber, qualified, and skilled staff who are enthusiastic in their fields and display teamwork and high ethical standards. At KAIMRC-WR, we are striving to maintain these standards for excellence.
Dr. Suliman Al Ghamdi joined King Abdulaziz Medical City, Western Region in August 2005 as Associate Consultant, Department of Oncology, and promoted to Consultant position in 2007 and was appointed as Section Head, Radiation Oncology in August 2007. In August 2010, he was appointed as Deputy Chairman, Princess Nourah Oncology Center, King Abdulaziz Medical City, Western Region. In August 2011, he was appointed as Deputy Head, King Abdullah International Medical Research Center, Western Region. In August 13, 2013, Dr. Ghamdi was appointed as the Head of King Abdullah International Medical Research Center – Western Region and up to now is still the head of the Research Center in Jeddah.
Dr. Suliman Al Ghamdi graduated from King Abdulaziz University, Faculty of Medicine, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1997, and completed his internship in the same institution in 1998. He completed his Residency Training Program in Radiation Oncology from January 2000 till December 2004 at Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre, University of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, followed by fellowship training in Radiation Oncology with sub – specialization in Stereotactic Radiosurgery of Head and Neck, CNS Malignancies and Brachytherapy in 2005. He also obtained FRCPC certificate on May 28, 2004.
