Today was the start of the 3rd Stem Cell Conference (IV IPLASS Meeting) under the theme “New Frontiers in Stem Cell Basic Research, Translation and Clinical Application”. The conference in organized by King Abdullah International Medical Research Center(KAIMRC)/Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA) in association with the International Placenta Stem Cell Society (IPLASS) and in collaboration with the Saudi Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation (SSBMT).
This important international conference was inaugurated today by H.E. Dr. Bandar Al Knawy, CEO, MNGHA and President, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) and will last until September 21st 2016.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Bandar Al Knawy highlighted the importance and the promising future of stem cell research saying: “There is no doubt that stem cell research in all its facets has opened new opportunities and a number of early research findings have proven to be very promising and hopefully we can all soon witness their application into the clinic”.
Dr. Ahmed Alaskar, Executive Director of KAIMRC has welcomed the participants and highlighted the current R&D programs and clinical initiatives in the stem cell field that are taking place at KAIMRC and MNGHA including Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Research Program, the Cord Blood Bank, the Saudi Stem Cell Donor Registry and the Saudi Society of Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation.
Dr. Mohammed Abumaree, Chairman of the Conference and Dr. Ornella Parolini, President of the International Placenta Stem Cell Society (IPLASS) have also welcomed the participants and invited all speakers and attendees to get actively get engaged during the different sessions and explore collaborative opportunities.
