King Abdullah Medical Research Award

King Abdullah International Medical Research Center aspires to become a leading Research Center nationally and globally in Biomedical Research & Development. King Abdullah Medical Research Award has been announced by His Royal Highness Prince Muteb Bin Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of the National Guard, during the 6th Annual Forum for Medical Research 2015 organized by King Abdullah International Medical Research Center.

The Objectives of this Award are:

  • To recognize and reward excellence in the field of Biomedical Research (Basic and Translational) as well as Clinical and Health Research.
  • To emphasize the government’s commitment to create an environment conducive to high quality research at a national competitive level.
  • To enhance the research center’s performance in the delivery of research with a direct impact on human health and the country’s economy.
  • To emphasize on the importance of innovation and development in medical research. 


Nature of the Award

The King Abdullah Medical Research Award may be given to qualified researchers or a team and split equally between the following disciplinary areas as appropriate:

  • Biomedical Research (Basic and Translational).
  • Clinical and Health Research.

 The recipient of the award shall receive:

  • A Plaque of recognition
  • Award of SR 1,000,000 to be split among 2 prices in the above mentioned areas.



To be eligible, the nominee must be:

  • Leading the research project or be part of the nominated research team
  • Hold an MD or PhD, or MD/PhD
  • Affiliated with a research institution within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Not have received this award previously.


Selection Criteria

Nominees will be selected based on merit and on the following criteria:

  • Originality: The research work should contribute a novel principle, technology, concept, method or technique. (20%)
  • Significance: Research findings should have a significant contribution to biomedical sciences, technology generation, health sciences and medicine. (20%)
  • Impact: The project under consideration should already have made a direct impact on healthcare or resulted in a new prototype, device or process that improved healthcare or made an impact on the economy through the generation of new revenue. (30%)
  • Peer Recognition: The work under consideration should have resulted in significant peer reviewed publications or granted patents. (30%)
